Terms of service

Remote Slide is free, has no accounts, and comes with no guarantees. Keep your session link private, and have a backup plan for important presentations.

1. Scope

These terms apply to the website and the hosted service at remote-sli.de (the “service”), provided by Haylee Schäfer (see the imprint). You accept them by using the service, including through the bookmarklet or the Chrome extension.

The Remote Slide source code is licensed under the Apache License 2.0, and these terms do not restrict that licence. If you run your own server, these terms do not apply to it.

2. The service

The service connects a presentation in your browser with one or more phones or other devices, so that you can control the presentation remotely. It forwards messages between the devices in a session and does not store them. It is free of charge and requires no account.

Remote Slide is run by a single maintainer. The service is provided as it is, with no promised availability, support, or response time. Connections can drop, and the service may be interrupted, changed, or shut down at any time. Do not rely on it as the only way to control a presentation that matters.

3. Your responsibilities

• Your session link. Anyone who has the session link or QR code can join the session, control your presentation, and see its slide previews. Share it only with people you trust, and open a new session if it may have leaked.
• What you present. With the Chrome extension, the remotes receive screenshots of the browser tab that shows your presentation. Make sure nothing is visible there that the other participants should not see.
• Pages you control. The bookmarklet and the extension run a script on the page you use them on. Use them only on pages and presentations you are allowed to use in this way.
• Display names. Do not use display names that are unlawful, offensive, or that impersonate someone else.

4. Acceptable use

Use the service only for its purpose: controlling presentations. Do not:

• send content through the service that is illegal, or that you have no right to share;
• use the service as a general messaging, file-sharing, or tunnelling channel;
• join or control sessions that are not yours without the owner's permission;
• try to guess session codes, place a disproportionate load on the service, or disrupt it or its users.

Report security vulnerabilities to mail@inventivetalent.org. Good-faith research reported this way is not a breach of these terms.

5. Enforcement

If there are concrete signs that the service is being misused, sessions may be closed and IP addresses or networks blocked, without notice where necessary to stop the misuse. Report abuse to mail@inventivetalent.org, including the session code and approximate time if known.

6. Liability

Because the service is provided free of charge, liability is limited to intent and gross negligence. This limitation does not apply to injury to life, body, or health, to liability under the German Product Liability Act (Produkthaftungsgesetz), or where a defect was fraudulently concealed.

In particular, there is no liability for a presentation that could not be controlled because the service was unavailable, or for content that other participants saw because a session link was shared.

7. Privacy

What the service processes and for how long is described in the privacy policy.

8. Changes to these terms

These terms may change as Remote Slide develops. The date at the top shows the current version. Changes apply to sessions opened after they are published. If you do not agree with a change, stop using the service.

9. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. If you are a consumer, this choice of law does not remove the protection of mandatory rules in the country where you live. If you are a merchant, the courts at the provider's place of residence have jurisdiction, as far as the law permits.

If any provision of these terms is invalid, the remaining provisions stay in effect.
